Builders in Eurozone raise output by 0.3% in April

While production in the construction sector in the European Union was unchanged in April on a monthly level, the euro area saw a seasonally adjusted increase of 0.3%, Eurostat said on Monday. Output change compares to drops of 0.5% and 1.1%, respectively, in the previous month.

On an annual scale, builders ramped up activity by 3.2%, a slowdown of 0.6 percentage points from the previous reading, which was revised slightly upward. In the 28-member block, the pace halved from 4.5% to 2.7%. The acceleration in building construction lagged in the reporting month behind the rise in civil engineering, the other component of the headline index. Against April of last year, the situation in the two regions was the other way around.

Sweden and France advanced 3.8% and 3.5%, respectively, on a monthly basis, leading the gainers, against Romania's slump of 7.7%. The same country was the worst performer also in the period of 12 months, shrinking production by 18.4%, while Slovenia was the strongest with an increase of 27.8%, followed by Hungary's growth of 22%.
