EU 'ready to begin' official Brexit negotiations
The European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said on Monday the European Union had been informed in advance that the United Kingdom intends to trigger Article 50 and thus begin the Brexit process on March 29.
Schinas confirmed “everything is ready” on the EU’s side regarding negotiations on Britain’s departure from the bloc. “We are ready to begin negotiations,” he stated.
Meanwhile, European Council President Donald Tusk tweeted that he will “present the draft Brexit guidelines” to the remaining 27 EU member states no later than 48 hours after the UK triggers Article 50.
Earlier today, a Downing Street spokesman announced Prime Minister Theresa May will trigger her country’s exit from the EU on March 29.
