European markets open with gains
Major stock indexes in Europe increased at the start of the day on Tuesday as economic and finance ministers of the entire European Union meet in Brussels. Meanwhile, EU’s Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker are set to host Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for the EU-Japan Leaders’ meeting.
The DAX gained 0.25% at 9:04 am CET. Commerzbank led the index as it increased 1.65% at 9:06 am CET.
The EuroStoxx 50 rose 0.43% at 9:05 am CET, with BNP Paribas rising 2.11% as it announced that it plans to increase its investment banking activity in Europe as a result of worse performances from competitors such as Deutsche Bank.
The CAC 40 increased 0.36% at 9:05 am CET.
The FTSE 100 edged up 0.06% at 9:05 am CET, with financials among the best performing stock.
The euro rose 0.51% against the dollar and went for 1.07943 at 9:26 am CET. Meanwhile, the pound was 0.22% up against the greenback, going for 1.2385 at 9:27 am CET.
