Fired FBI Director Comey agrees to testify in public

Former FBI Director James Comey agreed to testify publicly before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Panel Chairman Richard Burr and Vice Chairman Mark Warner said on Saturday. United States President Donald Trump recently removed Comey as head of the nation’s top law enforcement agency, causing a series of allegations to emerge, including a report that the president had asked the FBI director to end the investigation into former National Secuirty Advisor Michael Flynn.

The committee leaders stated they hope Comey’s testimony could help clarify certain issues that came up since his dismissal from the FBI.

"The committee looks forward to receiving testimony from the former director on his role in the development of the intelligence community assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 US elections, and I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media," Burr said in a statement. The date of Comey's public testimony before the committee is still unknown.
