Le Pen to boost defense, economic patriotism
Far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen said that France needed economic patriotism during French presidential debate on Monday evening. She also said she planned to increase defense spending to 3% of GDP by 2022.
Le Pen accused Francois Fillon of using “Project Fear” on the idea of leaving the European Union. Fillon said Le Pen was a “real killer” of French purchasing power, that she would be leading France to financial chaos, and that her plan to leave the EU would lead to political chaos.
Centrist presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron said that EU’s authorities need to be rigorous in Brexit talks. He also explained that the EU allowed France to defend its independence. He stated he would not want to see France in closer alliance with Russia.
