Lufthansa cancels 890 flights as strike continues
Lufthansa canceled 890 more flights on Wednesday due to the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) extending its strike over a pay dispute.
The pilots continued the protest following a two-day pause. After yesterday’s strike which affected solely short-haul flights, the walkout extended to long-haul flights today. The staff on strike is expected to organize a demonstration at the Lufthansa hub at the Frankfurt Airport later in the day.
During negotiations over the weekend, the airline failed to reach a deal with VC and decided to strike again this week. Since the beginning of the walkouts seven days ago, almost 4,500 Lufthansa flights have been canceled.
