Lavrov, Tillerson conclude first meeting
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson finished their first meeting on Friday in Bonn, Sputnik reported. The two top diplomats discussed a number of issues, but did not touch on the topic of sanctions on Russia or the potential meeting between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump.
Tillerson, who came into office on February 1, stated, “the US will consider working with Russia when we can find areas of practical cooperation that will benefit the American people.” Yesterday, President Trump stressed that it would be a good thing for Russia and the US to get along.
The secretary of state went on to call on Moscow to comply with the Minsk agreements regarding the Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile, Lavrov declined to comment to the Michael Flynn resignation from the post of national security adviser, saying Russia does not interfere in the business of other states.
Lavrov and Tillerson met during the G20 Summit in Bonn, which ends today.
