Opposition to vote on Park impeachment on December 9
South Korean opposition parties agreed on Friday they will put to the vote a motion to impeach president Park Geun-hye on December 9.
A spokesman for the Democratic Party, the country’s main opposition, Ki Dong-min said: "The motion will be proposed today. It will be reported to the plenary session on December 8, and we will bring the impeachment motion to a vote on December 9."
For the motion to be successful it has to receive approval from 200 of the 300 National Assembly members. The three opposition parties agreed to persuade members of the ruling party to participate in the vote.
Park is alleged to have collided with her close friend to pressure large companies to contribute money to select foundations. Park has denied any wrongdoings, but has apologized and offered to resign.
