Security firms see N. Korea link to cyber attack

Major cyber security companies Symantec and Kaspersky said that they were looking into clues that may connect the global ransomware attack known as “WannaCry” with programs previously attributed to North Korea.

The companies found a piece of code used in the attack had also appeared in programs used by the Lazarus Group, which researchers from many companies said is run by North Korea.

The White House said that about 150 countries had been affected by the attack and more than 300,000 machines were infected. President Donald Trump’s security adviser Tom Bossert said that less than $70,000 had been paid in ransom and that he is aware of no instances in which a payment has led to the recovery of data.
