Trump: US cannot rely on other countries' steel
United States President Donald Trump said as he signed the executive order to launch a probe into foreign imports of steel on Thursday the US cannot "afford to become dependent" on other countries when it comes to steel production. He added that "maintaining" US steel production is important for both the country's economy and its military.
Trump claimed he decided to start an investigation into how steel imports affect American workers and national security in order to "stand up" for American workers and companies, as other countries are "taking advantage of the US in so many ways" including steel "dumping."
As he signed the order, the president stressed the investigation is "not about China," but concerns a probe of "worldwide" imports.
