UK of 'high priority' in negotiating trade deal, Ross says

United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross told CNBC on Monday that the United Kingdom was “very high up” on the administration’s list of countries prioritized for arranging a trade deal. Ross also added that he expects talks on a trade deal to get off to a good start and a “happy finish.”

Speaking on what he considers the administration of President Donald Trump’s most significant achievement, secretary Ross said “regulatory unwind,” highlighting the decision was “celebrated by every single CEO who visited me.” He noted that during former President Barack Obama’s last two years in office, over 7000 new rules and regulations were put in place, something the secretary described as “strangling this country.”

“Our attitude is that government should be a facilitator, not an inhibitor,” Ross concluded.
