Wall Street opens higher as earnings come in
Markets in the United States opened in the green on Thursday as investors digested quarterly earnings from companies including Philip Morris, Verizon and Blackstone. Visa is set to report after the session ends.
The Dow Jones increased 0.29% at 3:31 pm CET. American Express jumped 3.17% after the company said its earnings per share in the first quarter of 2017 were $1.34.
The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.43% at 3:30 pm CET. JD.com was the best performer, climbing 2.07% at 3:32 pm CET.
The S&P 500 was up 0.26% at 3:30 pm CET. CSX led the gains as it soared 6.31% at 3:46 pm CET.
The euro gained 0.49% against the dollar to sell for 1.0763 at 3:33 pm CET and the pound edged up 0.17% compared to the US currency to go for 1.2800 at 3:34 pm CET. The greenback rose 0.33% against the yen to change hands for 109.224 at 3:34 pm CET.
