40M vaccine doses ready for US by end of Dec. - HHS

The Trump administration representatives announced on Wednesday that 40 million doses of the two COVID-19 vaccines that have shown a significant efficiency would be ready to be distributed in the United States by the end of December, pending the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) authorization. This amount shall cover the need for vaccinating 20 million of the most vulnerable people in the country.

The executives from the departments of Health and Human Services and Defense claimed that Operation Warp Speed has "accelerated the timelines for delivering an eventually safe and effective vaccine in many ways." Additionally, they stated that the federal government made development investments in five different vaccines and upfront pre-purchase agreements with six vaccines, driving pharmaceutical companies to begin manufacturing before they even knew whether their products would be efficient enough or not.

Up to now, Moderna has announced a 94.5% efficacy of its COVID vaccine, while Pfizer and BioNTech have announced their intention to file a request for an Emergency Use Authorization, after reporting 95% efficacy of their vaccine.
