5.7-magnitude quake hits Alaska's Rat Islands

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 shook the Rat Islands, Alaska on Thursday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) data showed.

The tremor's epicenter was located at a depth of 7.1 kilometers at 12:31 pm local time. The Rat Islands are a group of uninhabited volcanic islands prone to earthquakes due to their location on the boundary of the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. The 1965 Rat Islands earthquake measuring 8.7 was one of the most significant in history.
