Russian bounties likely led to deaths of US soldiers - report

The bounties allegedly offered by Moscow to Afghan militants for killing American-led coalition troops are expected to have resulted in deaths of US soldiers, The Washington Post reported citing sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

According to the media outlet, several captured militants, while interrogated by the US Army in the past months, have confirmed the deaths, however, it remains unclear how many troops were allegedly killed under the program.

Previously, the White House was accused of being briefed about the Russian bounties and not taking action on the issue, which was later rejected by the US President Donald Trump, as well as the Taliban and Russian authorities who denied the program ever existed.
