Trump's ex-adviser Roger Stone sentenced to 40 months in prison

Former political strategist of United States President Donald Trump, Roger Stone, was sentenced to 40 months in prison for obstruction of justice, witness tampering and making false statements to Congress, it was announced on Thursday.

Stone will spend three years and four months in prison and then released with two years under supervision. He will also pay a $20,000 fine.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson stated to the media that Stone was not sentenced for "who his friends are or who his enemies are," but stressed that he was prosecuted for" covering up for the president." She added that Stone's "pride in his own lies are a threat to the very foundation of this democracy."
