UK MPs to ask for Brexit extension to block no-deal

A new piece of legislation that will be put forward by British MPs plans to block the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union by forcing Prime Minister Boris Johnson to ask for a short Brexit deadline extension in case Parliament doesn't vote for a no-deal Brexit or it fails to pass a new Brexit deal, Sky News reported on Monday, citing MP Nick Boles (pictured).

However, the extension would not be long enough to allow for a new referendum to be held, Boles stated, adding it would only last "a couple of months."

A number of MPs are attempting to pass legislation against a no-deal Brexit this week after Prime Minister Boris Johnson decided to prorogue Parliament, meaning no sessions will be held from September 12 to October 14.
