UK approves Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHS) of the United Kingdom unveiled on Wednesday that the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) granted an emergency use approval for a coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.

Around 800,000 vaccine doses are set to roll out in the UK as early as next week, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said. The National Health Service (NHS) "will begin putting their extensive preparations into action to provide care and support to all those eligible for vaccination," according to the statement.

The government urged people across the country to "abide by the necessary restrictions in their area" to enable the NHS to conduct a successfull and efficient vaccination "without being overwhelmed."
