UK consumer confidence marks 8 year-high jump in Jan - GfK

British consumer confidence conducted for the month of January beat the analysts' projections and soared amid the start of the coronavirus vaccination program in the country, a GfK survey showed.

The Consumer Confidence indicator stood at negative 28 points, improving by 2 points compared to the data seen in December and marking a modest overall improvement compared to the 34-point drop recorded in April after the coronavirus lockdown was initially put in place.

"Our view of the general economic situation still makes for grim reading, especially expectations for the coming year, which shows a nine-point drop," GfK client strategy director, Joe Staton, said.
