UK govt considering full borders closure - minister

British Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary George Eustice told Sky News on Friday the government was considering closing the country's borders fully to curb the further spread of COVID-19 and its new variants but added the containment on travel should be sufficient for now.

Eustace also urged the public to respect the current restrictions and self-isolate if necessary. "There is light at the end of the tunnel, once we get all of those vulnerable cohorts vaccinated [...] I think it will be possible to return to life much closer to normal," he stated.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson stressed it was "too early to say" when the current restrictions would be lifted. As of Thursday, Britain counts 3,543,646 cases of COVID-19 and 94,580 virus-related deaths.
