US has financial data that confirms Russian bounties - report

The United States has intercepted electronic data which allegedly corroborates the Russian bounty story, the New York Times reported citing three officials familiar with the matter.

According to the media outlet, the data shows a wire transfer of a large sum of money sent from an account in possession of Russia's General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (GRU) to an account believed to be controlled by the Taliban.

Previously, reports have suggested the Russian military may have offered bounties for Afghan militants to target the US and coalition troops, which both Russian and Taliban authorities have denied. Following the report's release, US President Donald Trump was accused of knowing about the issue and not acting on it, which he denied.
