Air France to suspend flights in Belarus airspace
Air France announced on Tuesday the airline would suspend flying over Belarus after the incident from yesterday in which a Ryanair plane was forcefully landed by Belarusian authorities.
On May 24, President Alexander Lukashenko ordered that Armed Forces' MiG-29 fighter escorts the plane ahead of its landing citing Hamas threats. However, Belarusian opposition activist and journalist Roman Protasevich was arrested instead.
The European Union and the United States strongly condemned the action hinting they could impose fresh sanctions on Belarus, while multiple airlines suspended flying over Belarus airspace, including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Finnair.
