Airbus considers state backing for new aircraft program

Airbus SE CEO Guillaume Faury suggested that the company might seek state support from European governments for its new multibillion-dollar commercial aircraft program, intended to replace its A320 family of jets.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Faury indicated that Airbus could request taxpayer backing to introduce its single-aisle aircraft and a shorter-range, hydrogen-powered plane. He claimed that the airspace group has the financial strength to develop these programs independently but noted the potential need for government backing.

The report acknowledged that the potential request could challenge the 2021 agreement aimed at resolving long-standing trade disputes between the European Union and the United States.
