Altmaier: COVID situation not improving in Germany

Germany's Economic Minister Peter Altmaier expressed on Monday his dissatisfaction with the effects that lockdowns had on curbing the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

Speaking to the Deutschlandfunk radio, he said that the slowing down of the virus is taking longer than expected, and added that the numbers of infections recorded on a daily level are too high in certain regions.

A similar notion was put forward by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the end of the previous week when she insisted that more needs to be done to fight the pandemic, and described the number of both new COVID cases and deaths attributed to the virus as a "reason for concern."
