Altmaier: German GDP growth forecast up to 3.7%

German Economy and Energy Minister Peter Altmaier said on Thursday the most recent analyses showed the country's gross domestic product (GDP) would grow by 3.7% in 2021 rather than by the previously predicted 3.0% and a "clear sign of confidence, optimism, and well-founded hope" concerning output's recovery from the crisis the COVID-19 pandemic caused.

He underlined the newest forecast proved Germany was able to "participate in the industrial upswing in the global economy" and that it was "generating additional growth as a result, so this year we will not only stop the economic slump, but begin to overcome it, and next year we will reach the old strength of before the pandemic."

Altmaier recently predicted the German economy would return to its level before the outbreak in the second half of 2022. He also advised the government not to endanger the recovery and extend its support to the country's businesses affected by the pandemic.
