Amazon is Europe's largest clean energy buyer

Amazon announced on Monday the launch of nine new utility-scale renewable energy projects in the United States, Canada, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, becoming Europe's largest corporate purchaser of wind and solar energy.

The online retail giant now has 206 clean energy projects worldwide, 71 of which are wind and solar projects, while 135 are solar rooftops of the company's real estate. The generated 8.5 gigawatts (GW) supply corporate offices, facilities, Whole Foods grocery stores and Amazon Web Services data centers.

"Amazon continues to scale up its investments in renewable energy as part of its effort to meet The Climate Pledge, our commitment to be net-zero carbon by 2040. [...] Many parts of our business are already operating on renewable energy, and we expect to power all of Amazon with renewable energy by 2025—five years ahead of our original target of 2030," said Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.
