Amazon scraps plan to sell drugs to hospitals - report

Amazon.com, Inc. decided to discard plans to become a major hospital supplier, according to sources familiar with the matter, CNBC reported on Monday.

The company's marketplace for business customers, Amazon Business, will reportedly focus on selling medical supplies which are less sensitive. Sources said that the shift in plans was followed by Amazon's inability to persuade big hospitals to change the traditional purchasing process.

It was reported in February that the retail giant is to create a marketplace where healthcare institutions could purchase products to stock emergency rooms. Amazon shares rose 0.93% during today's session at 7:23 pm CET.
