Another 75 Omicron cases identified in England

The United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) announced on Friday that 75 more cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant have been found in England, bringing the total to 104. Health authorities also identified another 16 cases in Scotland, totaling 29, while one case has been confirmed in Wales and none so far in Northern Ireland.

The infected persons have been asked to self-isolate and their possible links to travel will be investigated, UKHSA said. "Increased case detection through focused contact tracing has led to more cases of the Omicron variant being identified and confirmed, as we have seen in other countries globally," Chief Executive of UKHSA Dr. Jenny Harries said. "We have started to see cases where there are no links to travel, suggesting that we have a small amount of community transmission. That’s why it’s so important that everybody, everywhere, takes simple steps to protect themselves from infection."
