Apple making own antenna for new 5G iPhone - report

American technology giant Apple is creating its own antenna for the new 5G iPhone that should be announced in the second half of the year, according to Fast Company's sources familiar with the matter.

The sources claimed Apple hesitates to accept Qualcomm's QTM 525 millimeter-wave antenna module because it doesn’t fit well into the thin design the American phonemaker wants for the new 5G iPhone. On the other hand, if Apple decides to use the antenna which is currently in design, the new phone will have to be thicker than originally planned.

Meanwhile, Apple's key supplier Qualcomm is being investigated by the European Commission on possible anti-competitive behavior over accusations of leveraging its market position in 5G technology.
