Apple mulls using Japan Display's LCDs

Apple Inc. is interested in purchasing advanced liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) from Japan Display Inc., The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people knowledgeable about the matter.

Japan Display is rapidly pushing its advanced Full Active LCDs on the market, and it said last month that it expects the new technology to account for more than 70% of its business in panels for smartphones and other smart devices in the year ending March 2019.

People at companies that work with Japan Display said interest about Full Active LCDs has also come from Apple, the newspaper reported. While Apple declined to comment and Japan Display also refused to discuss potential international clients at a recent news conference, in the past fiscal year Apple accounted for about 54% of Japan Display's revenue.
