Apple to challenge EU's €13B tax order this week

Apple Inc. is set to launch a legal challenge to the European Commission's ruling that it must pay €13 billion in Irish taxes.

The European Union's General Court will start a two-day hearing on the case on Tuesday, three years after the Commission's ruling. Apple's Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri will lead the company's six-person delegation to the hearing at the Luxembourg-based court.

In 2016, the Commission found that the tech giant had been allowed to "pay substantially less tax than other businesses" in Ireland between 2003 and 2014, which it noted was against European Union laws.
