Apple to fix loophole, prevent police from hacking iPhones

Apple is fixing a technological loophole which enabled law enforcement authorities to hack into iPhones, according to the company's statement. The tech giant plans a software update which is to disable the device's data port one hour after the phone is locked.

"We’re constantly strengthening the security protections in every Apple product to help customers defend against hackers, identity thieves and intrusions into their personal data," Apple said. "We have the greatest respect for law enforcement, and we don’t design our security improvements to frustrate their efforts to do their jobs," the statement adds.

Earlier in 2016, the issue of smartphone devices belonging to law enforcement's persons of interest came into media spotlight, after Apple refused to help unlock an iPhone used by one of the two attackers who killed 14 people in San Bernardino.
