Ardern cancels nuptials as NZ stiffens virus measures

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced she has postponed her wedding, scheduled for this month, as her country tightened the measures imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 and its new variant, Omicron.

"I'm no different to thousands of other New Zealanders who have had much more devastating impacts felt by the pandemic, the most gutting of which is the inability to be with a loved one sometimes when they are gravely ill. That will far outstrip any sadness I experience," Ardern told reporters.

The new measures include wearing facial masks and limiting the number of people that can be present in indoor public spaces. Ardern and her partner, television presenter Clarke Gayford, have a daughter, born in 2018.
