Asia mostly lower as COVID surge in India persists

Shares in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly lower on Wednesday as the number of COVID-19 cases in India stayed high, while the coronavirus-related fatalities reached another record in the world's second-most populous country.

On the business front, Japanese carmaker Toyota reported an 11% increase in revenue in the fiscal year's closing quarter.

The Nikkei 225 dropped 1.34% at 7:34 am CET, while Hang Seng rose by 0.22% at the same time. The Kospi Composite was 1.34% lower a minute later, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.8%. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite surrendered 0.13% at 7:21 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite declined by 0.06%. The dollar improved by 0.21% against the Japanese yen trading for ¥108.8460 at 7:37 am CET.
