Asia trades mixed ahead of Fed minutes

Stock markets in Asia traded mixed as investors awaited indications of future monetary policy from the United States Federal Reserve coming up on Wednesday. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand decided to lift the Official Cash Rate to 3% from 2.5%, in line with expectations. It also raised its projections for the rate going forward, to 3.69% in December 2022, 4.1% in September and December 2023, and 3.65% in September 2025.

The Nikkei 225 gained 0.81% at 4:35 am CET, while the Kospi Composite fell by 0.53% at 4:47 am CET. The S&P/ASX 200 and the Shanghai Composite were flat at the same time, as Hang Seng grew by 0.54%, and the Shenzhen Composite added 0.27% at 4:49 am CET.

The dollar traded 0.09% lower compared to the yen, going for 134.1245 at 4:50 am CET.
