Asian markets higher amid global policy tightening

Major stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region recorded gains late during Wednesday's session amid hopes that global policy tightening introduced by central banks finally prompted inflation pressures to ease.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 ended by surging 1.74% following the central bank's modest 25 basis points rate hike. Hong Kong's Hang Seng soared by 5.80% or 991 points at 7:19 am CET, as markets in mainland China remained closed for the National Day holiday.

While South Korea's Kospi Composite grew 0.35% at 7:20 am CET, Japan's Nikkei 225 jumped 0.50% or 136 points as the dollar stood flat against the yen to trade for 144.0375.
