Asian markets mixed amid China trade data

Asian markets traded mixed on Thursday as China released its trade balance data, showing its trade surplus rose above expectations in January. Meanwhile, talks between the Chinese and United States trade teams continued in Beijing. Earlier on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said the negotiations are "going really well."

The Japanese Nikkei 225 was up 0.14% at 4:35 am CET. The South Korean Kospi Composite lost 0.46% at 4:16 am CET.

China's Shanghai Composite dropped 0.32% at 4:30 am CET while the Shenzhen Composite traded just 0.06% in the green at 4:36 am CET. Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined by 0.26% at 4:38 am CET.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.31% at 4:38 am CET.

The dollar was flat against the yen and sold for 110.9770 at 4:39 am CET.
