Asian markets mostly lower amid pandemic fears

Markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded lower on Thursday as concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak weighed on stocks.

According to the latest information, the overall number of people infected with the coronavirus in China was 81,285 with 74,051 people being reportedly recovered. The death toll in the country reached 3,287. In South Korea, the number of total infected was 9,241 while Japan has 1,307 cases.

The Nikkei 225 closed 4.51% lower. The Shanghai Composite went down by 0.42% at 7:00 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.65%. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng slid 0.88% concurrently. South Korea's Kospi dropped 0.93% at 7:23 am CET and the Australian S&P/ASX closed 2.30% lower.

The dollar decreased 0.46% against the yen, going for 110.6940 at 7:25 am CET.
