Asian stocks down as US sentiment spills over
Stock exchanges in Asia were lower in afternoon trade on Thursday after some of their United States counterparts ended the previous day in the negative territory. The Federal Reserve, the Bank of Japan and the European Central Bank are all expected to announce their next monetary policy decisions next week. Elsewhere, the latest GDP data from Japan showed that the economy expanded 2.7% year on year in the first quarter of 2023.
The Nikkei 225 fell by 1% at 7:24 am CET. The Shanghai Composite declined 0.17% at 7:09 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite Index was down 0.20% at 7:24 am CET. The Hang Seng decreased by 0.30% at 7:25 am CET. The Kospi lost 0.54% at the same time. The S&P/ASX 200 moved 0.29% down at 7:27 am CET.
The dollar was 0.27% lower than the Japanese yen at 7:28 am CET, changing hands for 139.781.
