Asian stocks mixed as Omicron remains in focus

Markets in Asia-Pacific traded mixed in Thursday's afternoon session as worries over the Omicron variant's impact on the economy persisted after the new COVID-19 strain reached the United States and caused a sell-off on Wall Street.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.32% at 7:06 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite was up 0.05% at 7:05 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.28% at 6:52 am CET.

South Korea's Kospi jumped 1.32% at 7:08 am CET, while Japan's Nikkei 225 closed 0.65% lower. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 ended the session with a 0.15% decline.

The dollar gained 0.22% against the yen to go for 113.0585 at 7:10 am CET.
