Asian stocks mixed as PBOC leaves interest rate unchanged

Equities on the Asian markets traded mixed on Wednesday as the People's Bank of China (PBOC) decided to leave key interest rates unchanged in January, in line with market expectations. Also, investors were optimistic after Janet Yellen, tapped to become the US Treasury Secretary, said it was likely the interest rates would remain low in the future "for a long time."

Japan's Nikkei 225 went down by 0.48% at 03:30 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite stood flat at 04:31 am CET, as the Shenzhen Composite added 0.88%. At 04:30 am CET, South Korea's Kospi added 0.14%, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng rising by 0.20% at the same time. The S&P/ASX went up by 0.57%.

The dollar traded 0.11% lower against the yen, going for ¥103.7700 at 04:30 am CET.
