At least 5 dead in Turkey's 7.8-magnitude earthquake

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook the south of Turkey on Monday, followed by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock. The United States Geological Survey put the epicenter around 20 miles (33 km) away from the city of Gaziantep, at a depth of 11 miles (18 km).

Osmaniye Governor Erdinç Yılmaz said at least five people have died in his province, while other officials have not yet released details on casualties. Local media reported that a large number of buildings were destroyed in several cities closest to the epicenter. The earthquake was also felt in neighboring Syria, where media outlets said some buildings collapsed in the cities of Aleppo and Hama.
