Australian Open draw completed amid wildfires

The draw for this year's edition of the Australian Open was completed on Thursday amid concerns over air pollution in Melbourne amid raging wildfires in the country.

In the men's draw, 2019 winner Novak Djokovic will begin his title defense against German Jan-Lennard Struff, while top seed and last year's finalist Rafael Nadal will face Bolivia's Hugo Dellien in the first round. On the women's side, reigning champion Naomi Osaka will play Czech world number 57 Marie Buzkova, while first-seeded Australian Ashleigh Barty will start the tournament against Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko.

Qualifying rounds kicked off earlier this week with Slovenia's Dalila Jakupovic forced to retire from her match after suffering a coughing fit due to the smoke in the air. A number of players, including Djokovic called for the tournament to be delayed in case conditions do not improve.

The first round matches are due to start on Monday, January 20.
