AZ welcomes court ruling on vaccine supply to EU

AstraZeneca plc welcomed on Friday the decision by the Court of First Instance in Brussels to dismiss the charges brought by the European Commission against the company.

The pharmaceutical company's general counsel asserted that the company has "fully complied" with the terms of the deal made with the Commission, adding that it intends to focus on the "urgent task of supplying an effective vaccine" and that it is doing it at no profit.

The court ruled that AstraZeneca needs to deliver 80.2 million doses by September 27, significantly less than the 300 million the Commission demanded, as it dismissed all other measures the bloc wanted to enforce. Moreover, the judgement stated that the Commission "has no exclusivity or right of priority over all other contracting parties."
