Barclays appoints Currie as new COO

Barclays revealed in a statement on Wednesday changes to the executive committee, appointing Alistair Currie as the bank's chief operating officer, who is to replace Mark Ashton-Rigby that held the position since 2019.

While Vim Maru, Group Director of Retail Banking at Lloyds Banking Group, will take on the role of Global Head of Consumer Banking & Payments and join the Group Executive Committee, Ashton-Rigby will continue to work with Barclays in an advising capacity on a part-time basis. The three changes will all take effect on February 1, 2023.

"I have worked closely with Alistair and am keenly aware of his deep understanding of our businesses, organization, and the perspectives he brings as a 'consumer' of BX," CEO C. S. Venkatakrishnan said. Currie will also assume the chief role of the bank's Execution Services (BX) which provides support services to businesses across the Group.
