Barclays Q3 income at £5.46 billion, up 5% YoY

British bank Barclays plc unveiled on Thursday that its total income for the third quarter of the fiscal year stood at £5.46 billion. This marks a 5% improvement over the same period last year.

For the same period, operating expenses were virtually unchanged at £3.48 billion. Meanwhile, net operating income went from £4.6 billion to £5.34 billion, constituting a 16% yearly gain. The bank's attributable profit more than doubled over the past year to climb to £1.44 billion.

Barclays CEO James Staley commented on the results: "On top of a good first half, a strong third-quarter performance means Barclays has delivered its highest Q3 YTD pre-tax profit on record in 2021, demonstrating the benefits of our diversified business model. Our CET1 ratio of 15.4% means we are also in a strong position to balance this growth with a key priority of returning excess capital to shareholders."
