Beijing: US 'biggest trouble maker' in global security

China's defense ministry spokesperson Tan Kefei reacted on Tuesday to a Pentagon report published last month that estimated Beijing would amass 1,500 nuclear warheads by 2035. Kefei dismissed the report as "speculation" and "unfair."

In a statement, the ministry called the United States the "biggest trouble maker" in global security and "destroyer of world peace and stability." Kefei added that the US "has the world's largest nuclear arsenal" and "has increasingly become the source of nuclear conflicts." Meanwhile, China "adheres to the path of peaceful development and pursues a defensive national defense policy," he said.

Kefei also talked about Taiwan tensions which were reignited when US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island in August. He stated that the US wants to use Taiwan to "control China" and that "this is the root cause of the tension in the Taiwan Strait."
