Belarus 'concerned' about NATO presence at borders

The magnitude of the North Atlantic Organization Treaty's (NATO) presence at Belarus's border is concerning, the country's First Deputy Defense Minister Viktor Gulevich stated on Thursday, citing the report by the Armed Forces General Staff.

Gulevich stated Minsk understands the NATO and its partners must conduct training exercises but stressed that "their nature and progressive intensity cannot but cause concern in us, especially after several provocative actions on the part of our western neighbors." He noted the number of participants in those exercises amounted to 40,000 this year.

The ongoing political crisis in Belarus prompted some members of NATO, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, to impose sanctions on that country.
