Belarus could help Russia store nuclear weapons - US State Dept.

A Spokesperson for the United States Department of State has released a statement after Russia announced it will hold joint military exercises with Belarus, which fueled concerns about possible Ukraine invasion.

The official said the move may be a sign that the government in Minsk has plans to allow "both Russian conventional and nuclear forces to be stationed on its territory." "The question of whether they will even change their fundamental approach to hosting nuclear weapons is one that is important to keep an eye on," said the official.

The US had previously voiced concerns over Russian troop build-ups near the border with Ukraine and called for a de-escalation of tensions, as the White House admitted it has no intent to deploy offensive weapons in case Moscow made a move.
