Berkshire Hathaway's Munger dead at 99

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. said on Tuesday that it was notified by the family of its Vice Chairman Charlie Munger (pictured) that "he peacefully died this morning at a California hospital" at the age of 99.

"Berkshire Hathaway could not have been built to its present status without Charlie's inspiration, wisdom and participation," CEO Warren Buffett said in a statement about his closest business partner.

Munger was appointed as the vice chair of Buffett's conglomerate in 1978. He also served as chairman of Wesco Financial Corporation from 1984 until 2011, when it became a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
